His religious transformation began when a pastor who conducted Bible studies and fellowship seminars in jail talked to him very intently about renewal of faith. Roldan said the pastor convinced him to become a born-again Christian. "D’yan ako namulat sa maraming bagay. Before, hindi naman ako religious pero nang mamulat ako sa mga salita ng Diyos, biglang nabago ang buhay ko," said Roldan, Mitchell Y. Gumabao in real life. He is looking younger than when he was arrested for abduction four years ago. "Because I am at peace with myself now," he said. Roldan said he does not want to go back to acting anymore. He admitted he has been offered roles in TV soap operas, but they are often those of a villain. "Ang role na ibinibigay sa akin ay masasamang tao na naman. Like, ayoko nang maging kidnapper sa pelikula. Ayaw ko na nang mamamatay-tao. Ayaw ko nang maging kriminal sa pelikula," he said. He was met with controversy when he was invited to speak at a fellowship of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines or ISAFP. Roldan said the anti-crime group of Teresita Ang-See reacted to his being a speaker in the military agency’s spiritual fellowship. "Bakit daw pinagsalita sa ISAFP ang isang kidnapper na tulad ko. Pero hindi pa naman ako sentenced. I am still innocent until proven guilty. At hindi naman ako nagsalita tungkol sa kaso ko kundi tungkol lang sa words of God," he said. Roldan has been busy doing pastoral work for his church which he immediately joined after he was released on bail. Coincidence brings Roldan home While Roldan was still in jail, his Christian group was looking for a bigger space to build a church somewhere in Quezon City. One of its members saw the ideal place in Kamuning. The religious organization asked around and found out that the area was for sale, and that it actually used to be Roldan’s property. Roldan had the property during his heyday in the movies. It used to be an auto shop at daytime and a bar at nighttime. But he had to eventually sell it while he was in jail. When he released from jail, it was déjà vu for him when he attended his first Sunday service in the very same spot he used to live in. "Naiyak ako. I remembered a lot of memorable things here," he said. The house had to be rebuilt for spiritual activities, but it seems Roldan and his group are getting help from some supporters. "May butas na ang bubong nito pero nang makita ko si Johnny Ng, isa siyang businessman na matagal ko nang kilala, sa lamay ni Daboy (Rudy Fenandez), he volunteered to give me iron sheets," said Roldan. The actor-turned-pastor continues to solicit support for his church group.
