'Lola' wins grand prize in Miami Film Festival |

MANILA, Philippines - An independent film by Filipino director Brillante Mendoza won the grand prize at the 27th Miami International Film Festival in Florida, United States.
Mendoza's entry film, "Lola," is about grandmothers from Malabon's slums grieving over the loss of their grandsons.
The film was also featured as the opening film at the 12th Deauville Asia Film Festival in France.
“Lola” is also vying for the best film plum at the 24th Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland. The awards night will be held on March 21. It is also competing at the Asian Film Award in Hong Kong.
A grateful Mendoza said he is ecstatic that Filipino independent filmmakers are finally getting recognition abroad. He also noted that this proves only that a filmmaker can make a good and quality movie despite his meager budget.

Arnel Pineda arrives in Texas for Pacquiao fight |

MANILA, Philippines - Arnel Pineda, the Filipino frontman of rock band Journey, is excited to sing the Philippine national anthem before a potentially sold-out crowd in the March 13 bout between Pinoy boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and Ghanaian challenger Joshua Clottey.
Pineda arrived in Dallas, Texas less than 2 days before the Pacquiao-Clottey fight. The Pinoy singer said it was his first time to be billeted at the Gaylord Texan Hotel despite visiting Texas several times.
He said he is thankful that he will finally be able to sing in a Pacquiao fight after missing out on the opportunity several times.
Pineda, who was introduced over the phone to Pacquiao by common friends, was present during the boxer's birthday party in General Santos City last December.

Arnel Pineda, the Filipino front man of popular American rock band "Journey," will sing the Philippine national anthem in Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s much-awaited fight with Ghanaian Joshua "The Grand Master" Clottey on March 13 (March 14 in Manila) at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Pineda confirmed that he was invited by Pacquiao to sing "Lupang Hinirang" in his upcoming fight.
"Pupunta ako sa Dallas to sing sa laban ni Manny [Pacquiao].This Thursday [ang alis ko]. (I am going to Dallas this Thursday to sing in Pacquiao's fight.)," Pineda said.
"I'm really happy kasi matutuloy na. Nahihiya na ako kay Manny kasi pangatlong invitation na ito sa akin. Baka kasi isipin ay iniisnab ko. So finally, matutuloy na. (This is my third invitation from Manny who might think I'm snubbing him. I'm happy this is finally pushing through), " he said.
The crooner said he was not able to sing in Pacquiao's previous fights because of his hectic schedule as Journey's vocalist.

MANILA, Philippines - Popular TV host Willie Revillame belied reports that he and former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Double Up housemate Sam Pinto are dating.
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Revillame, host of the hit noontime show "Wowowee," said he invited Sam to his birthday, but they have not dated.
"Hindi ah, hindi pa kami nagde-date, wala. So mali 'yon. Doon lang sa birthday ko (pumunta siya), that's it," Revillame said.
Revillame, one of the most most influential people in Philippine showbiz, also said that Sam is not "Mrs. Wowowee."
"Biro-biro lang yon, saka magugustuhan ba ako ni Sam eh parang tatay na [niya] ako, eh ang bata bata pa niya," he said.
Revillame stressed he is still a bachelor waiting for "Ms. Right."

MANILA, Philippines - Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Steven Seagal had dinner two nights ago at Pacman’s posh Palazzo condo unit in Beverly Hills.
“Seagal called Manny ‘brother’,” reported TV/concert-producer Amy Almirol who arranged the meeting through a certain lawyer Clinton Baileys. “Seagal said that he’s a fan of Manny’s and he had been wanting to meet Manny for a long time.” Pacman and Seagal discussed the possibility of them doing a movie or a concert together. Seagal signed autographs and posed for pictures during his two-hour stay.
Pacman gave him two gloves bearing an oil portrait of Pacman and kept in a special case, complete with a special dedication. “Steven is a good man,” said Pacman.
