Charice tops Oprah's best musical performance poll

MANILA, Philippines – Teen singing sensation Charice beat Whitney Houston, James Taylor, Michael Bublé, Journey and the Black Eyed Peas to cop the “Best Oprah Show Musical Performance” honor.

The 17-year-old was the runaway winner in the online poll on Oprah.com as she received 70% of the votes for her “Note to God” performance.

“Note to God” is her debut international single which she launched on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on May 18. The song, written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster, peaked at No. 35 in the Canadian Hot 100 and No. 44 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

The Black Eyed Peas, meantime, got 9% of the votes for their “I Gotta Feelin’” kickoff party performance.

According to a Charice fan site, the other nominated performances are Taylor’s “How Sweet it is to Be Loved by You” and Houston’s “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.”

Journey, fronted by Filipino Arnel Pineda, was nominated for “Don’t Stop Believin’” while Bublé was nominated for his performance of “Haven’t Met You Yet.”

American Idol finalist and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson was also in the nominations list for “You’ve Got The Best of My Love/I’m Every Woman.” The country group Rascal Flatts were also nominate d for “Summer Nights.”

Meanwhile, Oprah.com also cited Charice’s other achievements in 2009, including recording her first international album and going on tour with “David Foster & Friends” in the United States and Canada.

She is also included in the live action-animation movie “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel” slated for release next year.
