MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.’s "Ang Panday" and Megastar Sharon Cuneta's "Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love" were the biggest winners at the 35th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Both films bagged 7 trophies each during the awards night at the SMX Convention Center Monday. Revilla's action-fantasy flick won best actor and best picture. In his acceptance speech, Revilla dedicated his first MMFF best actor prize to the original “Panday,” the late Fernando Poe Jr., and his best friend, actor Phillip Salvador, who was also part of the "Ang Panday." "Una po nagpapasalamat ako kay Lord sa lahat ng biyaya na natatanggap ko. I'm so blessed. Sabi ko nga wala na akong mahihiling pa,” the senator-actor said. He also thanked his dad, Ramon Revilla Sr., for his support. The elder Revilla has been bedridden for months since he suffered a stroke. “I know you’re watching right now. This is for you,” beamed the lawmaker. He also gave credit to komiks novelist Carlo J. Caparas for the “Panday” franchise. On Salvador, the young Revilla said of his mentor: “Hindi ako mananalo ng award na ito kung hindi dahil sa kanya,” he said. "Panday" also received the best supporting actor prize (Salvador), best child performer (Robert "Budoy" Villar), best visual effects, best production design, and best theme song. The 2nd best picture trophy was given to Star Cinema's "I Love You, Goodbye." Vic Sotto's "Ang Darling Kong Aswang" and Cuneta's "Mano Po 6" were named 3rd best picture and 4th best picture, respectively. Cuneta was named best actress for her portrayal of a beleaguered mom in her very first movie under Regal Films. Like Revilla, it was Cuneta’s first MMFF best actress trophy. Cuneta dedicated her trophy to all mothers, particularly her mom, Elaine Gamboa Cuneta. Cuneta, who wore a radiant red gown, came in late at the awards night and hurriedly went up the hall with husband Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan during the announcement of major acting awards. “Mano Po 6” also grabbed the best supporting actress (Heart Evangelista) prize, best director (Joel Lamangan), best musical score, best screenplay (Roy Iglesias), and the Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award. "I Love You, Goodbye" also won the best cinematography, best editing, and best original story awards. “Ang Darling Kong Aswang” clinched the best sound plum. Tags: Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. MMFF
