There was a solemn air past the nocturnal and elegy mass and the spirit of wine and roses was swirling like a smell of hope and resurrection. The food, of course, was for the mourning guests. There was no singing of birthday song, though, but a dirge and a whisper of celebratory tune. Quijano died of heart attack Saturday at his rest house in idyllic Lucban, Quezon and his body was brought to Manila by his relatives. Quijano’s nephew, Peewee, clarified some reports that his uncle might have been a victim of foul play. “Hindi naman. Walang gano’n,” he said. The talent manager’s sister is expected to arrive from the United States any day now while his two brothers, one of them Peewee’s dad, photographer Mark Quijano, are settled in the country. Couple Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres will arrive from the US Tuesday. Gomez is one of Quijano’s prized talents. Quijano will be cremated on a date not yet disclosed by the family.
