MANILA – “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame on Tuesday apologized on television after he drew criticisms for ordering the removal of the live streaming of former President Corazon Aquino’s procession from his show.

“Sa sitwasyon na ito, kung may nasaktan ako, I'm sorry. Sa pamilya Aquino, alam ng buong pamilya Aquino [na] wala akong masamang intention doon,” Revillame said in his show on Tuesday.

He added: “Ayaw ko pong nagsasaya tayo dito, mayroon tayong labi na nakikita sa TV.”

On Monday a visibly irked Revillame asked to stop the airing of Mrs. Aquino’s cortege from La Salle Green Hills to Manila Cathedral, which was being beamed live simultaneously with the noontime show.

The controversial host explained that it was inappropriate to broadcast it while they were having fun inside the studio. He added that it would be hard for him to make the public happy when he could see on screen the casket of Mrs. Aquino.

"Paano kami makakapagsaya [kung] nahihirapan kami? Huwag niyo akong papagalitan kasi totoo ang sinasabi ko. Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita niyo ang gusto niyong ipalabas. Kasi itong ‘Wowowee’ gusto ko, at alam din ni Tita Cory dahil napasaya rin siya ng show na ito, [dapat] laging masaya dito," Revillame said.

His staff immediately removed the live streaming from the screen.

Revillame’s action drew instant criticisms. In their Facebook accounts, some people branded it as “utterly disrespectful,” “really bad,” and “damn stupid.”

“He has the gall to say that on national TV!?!?!?!?! He's beyond himself,” one wrote.

Another said: “He thinks he's all that.”

On Tuesday, Revillame defended himself by saying that prior to the incident, he called ABS-CBN entertainment production head Linggit Tan asking her to remove the live streaming.

He told Tan that he does not want to come across as someone without a conscience.

“Nakakahiya. Sabi ko, ‘ako ang nakaharap sa camera. Sa akin magagalit.’ Nagsasaya [ako]. Akala niyo wala akong konsensiya,” he said.

He said he only reacted after he saw the funeral procession again on the screen.

He also divulged that before the airing of his Monday show, he even told ABS-CBN management that he was willing to give way to the live coverage of Mrs. Aquino’s funeral.

The host appealed for the understanding of the public. “Uulitin ko po, wala akong kinakatakutan sa pangyayaring ‘yan. Wala po akong mali sa ginawa ko, dahil in my heart and in my soul, malaki po ang respeto ko sa pamilya Aquino at kay Tita Cory,” he said.

Willie draws flak for cutting Cory live stream

To ABSCBN and concern: If you so much let this braggart get away with what he has done and tolerate his attitude you are no better than he is. You only prove to be someone who only care to earn money and superficially helping people for your own gain. This is too much. I hope you do the decent and right thing for the media and sanction this man ONCE AND FOR ALL! HE HAS DONE SO MUCH and you supported him and now LOOK AT YOUR MONSTER now!...

whatever his intention was, he shouldn't have done it on-air. he had done it many times before with his staff, slamming them for their mistakes on-air purposely to make a comedy out of it. he made his viewers laugh at the expense of his staff's hurt feelings. this time, abs-cbn should not let him get away with it coz the integrity of the network is at stake. he should have shown some form of "delicadeza" whenever he's on camera because people, especially the youth, might be imitating him even if what he's doing is immoral. this blatant show of arrogance or shall i say self-righteousness should come to an end. i think abs-cbn should start looking for an under-study who can replace him if nothing good will come out from this unforgivable action.

sobrang pambabastos ang ginawa nya...whatever his intention is. he should have done it off air and not in front of his televiewers...he really thinks na he can get away with anything kaya malakas ang loob nya na umasta na kung sino. show some humility mr revillame, u yourself should know na fame and money is not forever...ikaw na ilang beses ng nalaos!

In DEFENSE OF WILLIE

Cory's funeral has flooded airtime for more than 3 days na. Filipinos have to move on. If the TV viewers prefer to watch the funeral they should have turned to other channels not to Wowowee to express their loneliness. Those that were inside the Wowowee studio prefered to be there rather than march in the street and wear yellow shirts. Willie has a job to do and the show must go on. What if the PASSION OF CHRIST clippings ay ipalabas sa screen on your wedding reception and as a bride you express that you rather not have that movie shown, makakaaway mo ang churches and Christians at dapat ka bang tawagin na anti-Christ? Paging ABS-CBN, do not vindicate Willie for making such comments. Honest and true ang reaction nya at hindi sya dapat maging plastic or sipsip just to please people who made this issue a fiasco.
Willie, move on - people who are more understanding ang open minded are with you.

actually people are sensitive about willie's comment it's not only because it involves about funeral (which we filipinos are very sensitive about,,,itS our culture, what more it involves our icon of democracy?...so willie must live with it!) but because willy is always being overboard many many times!. i agree with the previous comment that ABS CBN is only after their income to generate because i just can't comprehend why obviously willy has an attitude problem, and yet they keep banking on him. cant you find anyone as you think as good as he is? anyway there's no question about that,,,itS ur work to pirate the already shining stars. its so distressing to know that some media are for money not on what is the impact of what they are showing to young generation.willy thinks siya ang batas; kung makapanglait ng mga lumang artista ganun nalang...cge deny kapa dyan! himala binalik mo na si Lara,,, dika na galit wla na siya bf??? gusto mo kaw lang ata bf nila,,,pti mga dancers pinapakiaalam pa sa mga bfS nila,,,ok lng sana if concern sya,,ang tanong bka gusto nya siya lang bf nila

at sau pretty,,,we know that all of us commit mistakes,,,but in d case of willy million times na sya ngkamali... and i guess derS a thin border line between a mistake and deliberate kahambugan! sa ginawa nya. hindi mistake un, kahambugan! at sino b natulungan niya? ung mga pinapahiya muna bago bigyan ng pera? ng pera na hindi nman knya????
