MANILA - Star for All Seasons and current Batangas Governor Vilma Santos confirmed that she is being considered by Star Cinema to play the lead role in a film about the late president Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

Santos said she was thrilled that she is being considered for the part, but admits that she will face tough competition for a role like this.

"Definitely malaking malaking karangalan po, not only flattered - but honored - na nababanggit ang pangalan ko na gustong gumanap sa buhay ni Madame president Cory Aquino. I'm honored but ito po ang isang klase ng pagganap na hindi basta-basta," Santos said.

If Santos is given the part, she said it will be her biggest challenge yet.

"This is not an ordinary film. Ang taong gagampanan ko dito ay nakita mo kung paano minahal, ni-respeto. Kung gaano kalaki ang kredibilidd at kung paano siya binigyan ng honor. So, hindi po madaling trabaho ito,” she said.

Santos said she is prepared to take on the role, as long as the project is planned meticulously, with thorough background research and great care in choosing whom will play parts in the film.

"Ayaw ko lang sabihin na sige, sige gawin. It should be well planned dahil ayaw ko din pong mapahiya sa mamamayan na pinili ka dahil ikaw si Vilma. Gusto kong mabigyan ng justice ang role na ibibigay sa akin bilang madame president Corazon Aquino," she said.

Though people of Batangas would reportedly love the idea of her as Aquino, the Batangas governor said she still needs the blessing of her constituents before accepting the film role, just like she did for her previous film.

"Looking forward [ako], pero siyempre magpapaalam ulit tako sa constituent[s] kasi ang 'In My Life' hindi pa napapalabas. Setember pa 'yon. Bago ko ginawa 'yon, nagpaalam ako sa constituents ko bilang public servant. I'm sure matutuwa din sila pero kailangan ko lang ipagpaalam bilang ina ng lalawigan ng Batangas," she explained.

"But kung ibigay sa akin ang role na 'yon, sa palagay ko ay wala ng makakapantay doon kung paguusapan natin ang career," she said.

Aside from her role as governor, Santos is also busy shooting remaining scenes of her upcoming film "In My Life" with her son Luis Manzano and actor John Lloyd Cruz.
