Rivermaya sues ex-manager over use of band nameMANILA - Local band Rivermaya has filed a P6 million damage suit against their former manager Lizza Nakpil for claiming that she has the sole copyright claim to the band's name.

Original band member Mark Escueta said that, contrary to Nakpil's claim tha she has the sole, legal right to use the Rivermaya trade name, the Intellectual Property Office has not yet granted Nakpil's application.

He said Nakpil still owes the band royalties and other profits, which the former manager allegedly mismanaged.

Escueta said Nakpil's harassment tactics has stopped the band from doing recordings and live shows.

In several media and e-mail released, Nakpil warned producers of legal action if they continue to use the Rivermaya name. The group's latest album, which was released under the Warner Music label, was pulled off store shelves and a big show in Singapore was also canceled.
