MANILA, Philippines – Instead of tears, Queen Of All Media Kris Aquino had a big laugh when she celebrated her 39th birthday on “The Buzz.”

Kris’ 3 female siblings - Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Viel Aquino-Dee and Pinky Aquino-Abellada, who usually shied away from public attention - sang on television Sunday when “The Buzz” threw a party for the host-actress.

The 3 appeared on the show to greet their youngest sibling.

“Pinky was telling me last night na mom will make sure na hindi ka iiyak. So, na laugh trip talaga ako. I could see na kayong tatlo nanginginig talaga. It was just the cutest. Thank you. And all of you, talagang si Viel can really sing,” Kris said.

Ballsy, the oldest, responded: “Because I didn’t want you to cry, sinabi namin na gawin na natin para matawa naman si Krissy. Kasi sabi ng mom each time na birthday mo umiiyak ka.”

“Kris, as I texted you last night, kung pagdududahan mo pang love ka namin susuntukin na kita. Laughs… for us to sing in public that’s proof enough we love you, so, I really wish you all the best sa home life and in your career. Love you,” Pinky added.

Viel, on the other hand, wished Kris good health given her busy schedule.

Their only male sibling, presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, was conspicuously absent on Sunday amid controversy hounding celebrities who are endorsing politicians in the coming elections.

This was also Kris’ first birthday celebration without mother former president Corazon Aquino, who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.

“No matter how sad it is na wala ka at least mom alam mo you brought us up well,” Kris said.

Kris’ 2 sons, Josh and Baby James, were also present during the celebration. Her husband, James Yap, however, failed to make it.

In his taped message, Yap, a professional basketball player, said he couldn’t attend the celebration because of a scheduled game.

He also shared that between the two of them he is sweeter.

“Ako nga parating yumayakap sa kanya. Mas sweet ako sobra. Siya ‘yong hindi masyado. Pa-kipot effect,” he said in jest. “I thank God na binigyan kami ng strength. Sa dami daming trials na napagdaanan namin walang nag-give up… kasama na ang mom (Corazon) doon na hanggang ngayon nagu-guide pa din sa aming mag-asawa,” he said.

“Gusto kong malaman mo na mahal na mahal kita… God bless at happy birthday,” he added.

Kris, for her part, said Yap’s biggest gift to her was his “100% understanding and support.”

She said: “Thank you, babe. Thank you, James for allowing me to act, to host, to do ‘SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon),’ to do ‘The Buzz.’ Maraming maraming salamat dahil dati inaaway mo ako dahil sa trabahong ito. Pero ngayon minahal mo na rin ang trabaho ko so maraming maraming salamat sa iyo.”

Kris, Kristina Bernadette Cojuangco-Aquino-Yap in real life, began her show biz career when she appeared on Inday Badidays’ “See-True,” a popular entertainment talk show in the 80s, as a special guest.

This episode garnered the highest ratings in the history of Philippine television.

From then on, there was no stopping Kris’ popularity.

Meanwhile, Kris’ scholars also gave their message of gratitude to the host.

Kris, who has been supporting World Vision for 6 years, is sponsoring the education of 319 children. She is also supporting the Philippine National Red Cross.
