MANILA, Philippines - Aside from the fact that he will be working with 2 of today’s most-sought after actresses, Bea Alonzo and Gretchen Barretto, Derek Ramsay is excited with his upcoming teleserye, “Magkaribal,” because he will play an action-oriented role.

“Isa akong mahirap na may pagka (ultimate) fighter. Medyo bumalik ako sa konting action dito,” said Ramsay, whose last action genre project was “Ang Panday (2005).”

While he is comfortable working with Alonzo since they have done TV and movie projects before, Ramsay confessed that he still needs to work harder so that he would not feel intimidated by Barretto.

“[With] Bea I’m very, very comfortable with her. Ilang beses ko na siyang nakatrabaho na at kulitan lang kami sa set. [But with Gretchen, I was] very scared at first. I was very intimidated kasi she’s Gretchen Barretto and ang lakas ng presence niya.

“She is very intimidating. ‘Pag pumasok ng kuwarto ang lakas ng presence. Alam mo na nandiyan, so I don’t think that will ever change. So kailangan ko lang sanayin ang sarili ko or force myself [and] motivate myself na kailangan kong mag-perform nang tama,” he said.

Some workshops have already helped Ramsay to feel more at ease with the actress. “Nagkaroon kami ng workshops last week na ice-breaker na rin. Komportable na ako. I’ll correct myself, I’m more comfortable [with Gretchen].”

The actor also clarified the answer he gave during the April 18 episode of “The Buzz” where he said there is a big chance that he would fall in love with Barretto if they were both single.

“That’s just a what-if game. You’ll never know. If she was single, if I was single… but we’re both not, so that’s not where our paths are going. She has her life, I have my life,” he said.

The actor also admitted in the same interview that Barretto is one the most hot and desirable actresses today.

“It’s not just the physical looks, it’s the whole package. She walks into the room and [you can] feel her presence. I’ve said this before, I only know a couple of women who can do that… si Gretchen, si Kris Aquino, Maricel Soriano, my mom at syempre si Angel (Panganiban).”
