Erap warns Juday might 'knock out' the Pacman

{mosimage}Former president and actor Joseph "Erap" Estrada warned that Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao might get "knocked out" if he appears in an infomercial for the pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to counter an earlier infomercial by actress Judy Ann Santos.

Santos appeared in an infomercial explaining the phenomenon of "electricity system loss". The advertisement was paid for by the First Philippine Holdings, a part of the Lopez Group of Companies which also owns the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

The actress was criticized by some sectors for making the said infomercial, since it was supposedly spreading "lies" and defending Meralco, which is being accused to overpricing electricity. Chief among Meralco's accusers is GSIS president Winston Garcia. Garcia earlier hinted that Pacquiao might appear in a GSIS-sponsored infomercial to counter the earlier one by Santos.

"Huwag na nilang anuhin si Pacman. He's already our boxing hero. Huwag na nilang sirain. Sinira na nila si Pacman noong pinatakbo nila laban kay Darlene, baka ma-knockout na naman siya dito," Estrada told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an interview.

The former president said that even if Santos believes in the infomercial's message, no one has the right to criticize her. He also sees nothing wrong if Santos was paid to do the ad.

"Judy Ann has every right to appear in that advertisement because she as an actress believes in what she says in that advertisement. There's nothing wrong with [that]. Inggit lang sila," Estrada said.

Movie with Juday

Estrada admitted that there's an ongoing negotiation for him to do a project with Santos.

"Maybe a movie," Estrada said. When asked if he will be the father of Santos for the said movie, he replied: "Marahil father niya."

Presently, a negotiation is ongoing for Estrada's film with Concert Comedy Ai-Ai delas Alas.

"Basta ako I agreed to do a movie with Ai-Ai.... siguro mas mauuna muna yung kay Ai-Ai," the former president ended.

Last week, Santos was also defended by her brother, actor Jeffrey Santos against those who criticized her ad.

Critics, including lawmakers and anti-crime group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), blamed Judy Ann for allowing herself to be "used" by the Meralco.

Meralco is under threat of a government takeover led by the GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) and faces accusations of overpricing and other allegations of wrongdoing.

Judy Ann is currently on a European tour with her boyfriend, actor Ryan Agoncillo.

Her older brother Jeffrey accused critics of unjustly dragging his sister into the issue, when all she did was appear in the infomercial as a talent.
