Actor-host Edu Manzano confirmed reports that there are people encouraging him to run in next year's elections. Manzano said that as the head of Optical Media Board it is hard to decide whether to seek an electoral position.
"May mga kumakausap na sa amin. That I cannot deny. But we still have not made a decision at mahirap din kasi. This 2009, next year na agad 'yung election. Kung anuman mamaya ang gagawin ng OMB baka sabihin nila ay in pursuit of election. Not in pursuit of legislation but in pursuit of election," Manzano said.
The actor said that he is giving himself until June to think about the offer.
"Hopefully by June I will be enlightened kung ano ang hinihingi ng isang kampanya. But more than that I have two growing children who I feel need my presence," he said.
The actor said that as OMB chair he is confident that the agency has already proved its worth.
"I would like to think na mayroon na kaming napatunayan. You know, that people are working together hindi lang yung government sector kung hindi pribadong sektor. Marami talagang magagawa if we join hands and work together," he explained.
Right now, according to Manzano they are focusing on the problem of internet downloading. He also shared that according to the latest study, DVD piracy went down by 16%. "Ang tumataas is yung downloading at totoong walang batas 'yon. Hindi naisip noon na magiging sabihin natin na 'demonyo' o pampapabigat sa ating industrya at sa lahat ng iba't ibang industriya ang internet. Without or with the absence of specific law ay mahirap harapin ang downloading," he said.
