KC: ‘I still have a lot to learn’ For KC Concepcion, being paired with Piolo Pascual is something she would look forward to, saying she would definitely learn a thing or two from the actor about headlining a teleserye.

“I still have a lot to learn,” KC tells INQUIRER.net in an interview on Monday after she signed a contract at ABS-CBN for the upcoming local version of “Lovers in Paris,” wherein she will play Vivian, a character portrayed by Korean superstar Kang Tae-young in the original international hit series.

“I am just so happy to be in his company because he has been through a lot appearing in shows like this one,” KC adds, who just appeared in back-to-back blockbuster movies with Richard Gutierrez.

Compared with Richard, Piolo is much different, KC says.

“Mas responsable si Piolo [Piolo is more responsible],” KC chuckles as she relates what she thinks of her new co-star after two weeks of initial tapings. She adds the actor is more contemplative and careful of how he carries or approaches his role. “Mas palaisip si Piolo, siguro po dahil mas marami siyang experience... Medyo mas safe lang si PJ (Piolo’s nickname) pagdating sa kung ano ang pinapakita niya. [Piolo is more contemplative probably because he has more experience. PJ also plays it safer with his characterizations.]”

But KC said both Richard and Piolo are fun to be with. “Pareho silang kalog [They are both zany],” she says.

Work for the daily primetime series, she adds, is another area that shows stark contrasts with her previous experiences appearing in a weekly anthology and two major motion pictures.

“Mas maraming trabaho [More work],” KC said. “You almost have to work everyday.”

Portraying the role of Vivian is another challenge. “I really have to be believable as a housemaid,” referring to her role as helper of Piolo’s character, Carlo, in Paris. The role had required her to lose weight, leaving her in a protein-free dietary routine.

“It has been challenging physically,” KC said. Add to that a deglorified look—a glaring disparity to her famous image we see in her popular commercial endorsements. “Our director (Eric Reyes) sees to it that I wear less make up so the slightest blemish can be seen.”

A day after the contract signing on Monday, KC and Piolo departed for France to shoot their Paris-based scenes. They will remain in the French capital for the next three weeks.

While in Paris, KC says she will tour Piolo and the rest of the production team around the city and recommend some local talents to appear in the project. KC finished an international corporate communications degree at the American University of Paris in 2007.
