magandang umaga pilipinasMagandang Umaga, Pilipinas (Good Morning, Philippines) is ABS-CBN's early morning show. It starts at 5:15am and ends at 8:15am (UTC +8). It airs 3 hours every Weekdays.

History

The ABS-CBN Management conceptualized the morning show in 1994. The show started in 1996 as Alas Singko Y Medya (literally means Five-thirty A.M) premiered with Julius Babao and Panjee Gonzalez. After few months,Panjee resigned from the show due to her marriage to Eugenio Lopez III and was replaced by Tintin Bersola .The show was renamed Magandang Umaga, Bayan until 2003. In 2004, It carried the title Magandang Umaga,Pilipinas with new hosts Cheryl Cosim, Bernadette Sembrano,Anthony Taberna and Kim Atienza.The show will end on June 22, 2007 which will be replaced by Umagang Kayganda, as a customized format for MUP. Aside from its new segments, MUP's roster of hosts will also change.

Synopsis

The show reports live traffic situations on land and through the air with the ABS-CBN Sky Patrol (Manila and Cebu traffic). The program also broadcasts current news with ABS-CBN News Patrol; Parenting tips with Tintin Bersola, Weather, science and animal trivia with Kuya Kim Atienza,market prices with Winnie Cordero;the latest buzz on your favorite stars with Ogie Diaz;Events and "Gimiks" with Lui Villaruz.

Whether you’re getting ready for school or for work, having a nice breakfast meal, or just lazing around in your bedroom, there will always be something useful to start your day. From news headlines to family matters, a power pool of experts will give you credible information and advice on your everyday concerns.

The leaner MUP team is made up of a more structured group of hosts who are specialized in their respective fields. Their roles in the show are more defined as they tackle the topics they are best at. A set of MUP hosts will cater to the wide variety of tastes.

Bernadette Sembrano broadcasts first news of the day together with Julius and Cheryl Cosim.

Trivia

  • One of  former MUP barkadas,Ryan Agoncillo is also a host of rival shows, Mornings @ GMA and Unang Hirit.
  • It sponsors formerly CNN for the news.
  • The show has a couple of logos.
  • There are 2 memorable episodes.In September 2003,it was their 8th Anniversary and in December 29, 2006 ,the grand reunion of all hosts.
  • The show was best known for ASYM days. The rooster call during it's opening billboard and the sun logo.
  • Bianca Gonzales left the show twice due to the Pinoy Big Brother.

Theme Song

  • The first theme song was customized including the lyrics "Alas Singko Y Medya Na!"
  • The ASYM theme song was sang by Jolina Magdangal during it's early days.
  • It was later revived by Retrospect in 2001.
  • During the MUB days,it has a customized theme
  • The theme later sang by Kitchie Nadal
  • The MUP Song was sang by Rivermaya from 2004 to 2005.
  • The last theme was a customized.

Production

The collaboration of Jake Maderazo, overall-in-charge of production, Noel Ferrer, executive producer, and Zaldy Bonalos, director, wrap up the new MUP package to the audience. As an accolade to the viewers, they present new hosts, new features, and new surprises.

It airs early mornings Monday to Friday in the Philippines and overseas through ABS-CBN, ANC and The Filipino Channel.
