Diether to stay in ABS-CBN—exec

Diether Ocampo will remain a Kapamilya after all.

Ocampo has abandoned a plan to cross over to rival GMA 7 and will stay in “the network [ABS-CBN] and Star Magic [ABS-CBN’s talent management arm],” an ABS-CBN network executive said on condition of anonymity in a text message to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The actor is set to renew his contract with ABS-CBN soon, the executive further said.

Ocampo negotiated with GMA 7 late last year on a possible transfer. This was confirmed by GMA 7 Senior Vice President for Entertainment Wilma Galvante, who said Ocampo approached the network as an “independent artist.”

GMA 7 had planned to cast Ocampo in the Philippine adaptation of the Koreanovela “All About Eve” this year.

When news broke about his planned transfer, Star Magic immediately issued a statement that Ocampo was still under contract with ABS-CBN and that it trusted Ocampo will “make the right choice.”

Ocampo spent his entire 13-year career as a contract artist of ABS-CBN. He last appeared in the Kapamilya primetime drama “Iisa Pa Lamang” opposite Claudine Barretto and Gabby Concepcion.
