Actor Diether Ocampo shuns politics

Actor Diether Ocampo is keeping his distance from politics.

In a text message to “Entertainment Live,” Ocampo denied that he is running for public office in 2010 national elections. He added that contrary to reports he is not consulting anybody for any political advice.

Ocampo was reacting to reports that he was planning to run for councilor in 2010 polls. In line of this supposed political plans, reports said Ocampo was already seeking the advice of actress-turned-politician Aiko Melendez.

The actor maintained that, instead of politics, he would rather focus on improving the social situation in the country, particularly in the troubled Mindanao.

“I am not aspiring for any seat in politics. I would rather talk about improving our social and civic developments especially in the southern part of the country, mainly the Mindanao region, where a lot of [our] Muslim brothers and sister are in need of support and inspiration from people like us,” Ocampo, who is involved in charity works, said.
