Actress Angel Locsin has been confined to a hospital in Quezon City last Thursday due to dengue.

In a text message to “The Buzz,” Locsin’s manager, Becky Aguila, said the actress was officially diagnosed by her doctor at St. Luke’s Medical Center with dengue infection two days ago.

“As of 5 a.m. (Sunday), her platelet count has gone up to 58,000. Her doctor is optimistic that she’s on her way to recovery. Angel would like to thank you all for your prayers,” Aguila said.

“The Buzz” reported that the actress also acquired the infection in 2005.

Prior to her hospitalization, Locsin was supposed to do guestings on show business talk shows “Entertainment Live” and “The Buzz” last week but these were all cancelled because she was not feeling well.

Rumored boyfriend Luis Manzano said Locsin had a high fever and started vomiting.

“Wala kaming napansin na rashes kaya hindi agad napuna ang dengue,” Manzano said. “Mahina siya, she’s not the typical Angel na makulit, Nanghihina siya ng konti pero she’s aware naman of everything.”

She was admitted to the hospital on January 22 at around 11 p.m., according to Manzano.

“She needs prayers... pero she’s okay,” he added.

Her family on variety show “ASAP ’09,” meanwhile, wished her speedy recovery.

“Na-shock ako nang malaman ko na may dengue ka at kinuwento sa akin ni Luis kung gaano ka-grabe ang kalagayan mo at that time na dinala ka sa ospital. We’ll be praying for you, all of us dito sa ‘ASAP,’” co-host Gary Valenciano said.
