"I believe that I can do it, this is my dream," says Karen. Melchor Buenaflor, 19, from Barangay Basak Pardo, meanwhile, said he had to borrow money just to get to the audition venue. He said he came to the audition in spite of his parents’ objections. "They didn't want me to audition because they felt that I couldn't make it. They told me we would be poor forever. I don't believe that. Everything that I'm wearing now is borrowed from a dear friend who has faith in me," said Buenaflor. Esterlita Montianto, 55, also had to endure the excruciating heat of the sun to wait for her 16- year-old daughter, Maria, who lined up as early as 1 a.m. "This is her dream and I will support her. We (parents) don't have a job to support her schooling. So, this is the only way we can support her," said Montianto.
